I would like to introduce you a very inspiring photographer. Peter Kool has a detailed and somehow funny sens of capturing street situations, he found his inspiration in common places. Has he been influenced by Martin Parr? I let you discover his work through his interview and the presentation of some pictures.

Tell me one thing you would like us to know about you?

I have very little to say about things and I snore.

What were your initial sources of inspiration in photography?

In the eighties I bought this large book “Henri Cartier-Bresson Photographer”; I must have browsed it hundreds of times. Also the books “Family of Children” and “family of Men” inspired me a lot.

What is your secret to keep energy and inspiration on a daily/weekly basis?

Three days a week I eat only 500 Kcal and no meat; I also do a lot of sports.
With these things I take care of my energy. Besides looking at other people’s photo’s, inspiration also has to do with the chemistry of the brain; some days my vision on things is clearer. If a pill would exist to evoke this, I would probably take it.

Do you follow technical evolution in photography? In other words, do you consider the technique as a fundamental pillar of photography?

As long as you have to push the button yourself it doesn’t matter which technique is used to make a good image. Of course with a wooden box and glass plates you are very restricted.

Are you interested in new techniques like 360° and VR ? And what do you think about them?

When digital photography was introduced I said it would never replace film; but now I’m not thinking of going back to the pellicle. So I don’t dare to say I’m not interested in those new technologies, who knows what it will bring.
